We spent this past weekend in Seattle, enjoying the gorgeous sun that the final days of January brought us. What fun we had! When Will was about 3 years old, he asked what the road sign said above the freeway. It said "Seattle" and then gave the mileage. He quickly responded that he would like to "see attle" one day and wondered just who she was. Finally, after almost two years...the kids gets to meet attle. And she couldn't have looked pretty. We drove up on Friday in a van that Rob rented for the occasion. Funny how kids make minivans fun. No, we have not purchased one, but we sure did like it. The sliding doors, the room, the captain's seats. Really what's not to love. No wonder people have 3 kids so that they can blame the need for more seat belts on getting a van! So we're driving up to Seattle in our minivan, kids watching Frosty the Snowman on the DVD player and Rob and I chatting about what it would be like to have a minivan-like maybe we would all of the sudden drive everywhere or take long weekends in out car. The possibilities are clearly endless. But I digress. When we arrive, we check in to our pool equipped hotel and run for the water. The pool was, however, cold. SO we huddled into the jacuzzi and had a blast. Eventually Rob ended up int he cold water with Addison jumping off the wall, and Will followed...well kind of, timidly he watched from the first step.
On Saturday we did more than should be done with two kids. We started at the aquarium where the nicest marine biologist led us upstairs to the secret room where the scuba divers got in and out of the tanks. Will got to look over the gear close up and spray down the recently emerged scuba diver with fresh water. We played in the tide pools (this is a great aquarium worth every penny) and cruised around looking at fish.

We also spent time at Pike's Place Market and the wharf, watching them throw fish around and holler crazy things. Then we went to the boat show and saw the biggest boats ever. So big. So big that they had two bathrooms. We hardly have two bathrooms in our house. From there, downtown for shopping and dinner and then off to the Space Needle. I'd been telling Will about the Space Needle for some time. He cautiously asked at first if there were walls high enough to keep us from falling. This kids is thinking about safety always. Addison on the other hand ran around the outside of the building without a care in the world.
